This section contains some useful hints and things to consider when buying your real nappies. For details of where to buy locally click here, or for mail order suppliers, follow this link.
How many nappies do you need?…
This depends on your washing routine, but most people find 12 to 20 nappies and 3 to 5 wraps in the your baby’s current size range is enough. You may well not need to buy all the sizes available. The weight ranges specified by manufacturers for each size are based on an ‘average’ baby and you can often manage with one size over a much wider weight range.
Should I buy a 'Birth to Potty' pack?...
Some babies change shape considerably as they grow, you may find that another brand or style of nappy suits you baby better when they move up to a new size. This means that rushing out to buy a discounted price ‘birth to potty’ nappy set may not work out to be as good an investment as you initially think.
Second Hand?...
Buying second hand nappies can give you big savings over buying brand new nappies. Real nappies are designed to last 2 or 3 babies, so used nappies normally have good performance compared to new. Click here for some suggestions of where to buy second hand nappies.
Try Before You Buy...
There is no substitute for seeing and feeling the nappies ‘in the flesh’. HRNP volunteers in your area can arrange to show you samples, and we can also lend you a trial kit of different nappies and wraps for a couple of weeks so you can try them out for yourself. These services are free of charge. Click here to find out if we have a volunteer in your area.
